Annie Thesia…
…is a queer femme cartoonist and alternative/lowbrow b/w comix maker living on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations known as Vancouver, though they’ve lived all over including Los Angeles, Victoria and Ottawa.
In 2019 they received a diploma in animation and concept art from Vancouver Film School, and are currently in their last year of an illustration undergrad at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. They’ve exhibited in various shows since 2016, including in DIY galleries, the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art, and the Michael O’Brian Exhibition Commons. In the past they’ve worked in cannabis marketing, film, and independent animation. They currently work in education and take publishing jobs. Sometimes they do music marketing materials, and are a (primarily) vinyl DJ.
They take a fascination with the intersections of queer identity, rock n’ roll, and horror. The more guts the better. Most of their work leans 18+ but they are interested in subgenres outside of horror as well, namely drama, queer interest, and road stories.
In their spare time they go to local art and music events, collect records and tapes, and doom scroll painfully cute little dogs’ feeds’ on Instagram because even edgelords need a break from the chaos.
